This year, Prekindergarten students have submerged themselves into the “Wonders of the Sea!”. Through out our integrated project, our younger students are exploring the depths of the ocean by learning about marine animals, the threats they face daily, climate change, natural disasters, and their role as the dominant especies in the protection of marine wildlife and their habitat.
This quarter students will research about arctic animals, those that live in the water and those that depend on the ocean for survival. They will explore the concept of Global Warming and how it is affecting the ocean, the animals in it, and increasing the chances of natural disasters.
PK students are learning about the United Nations’ Objectives for Sustainable Development and are making important connections with those related to the Protection of Water: Oceans and Wildlife (OSD 14), Climate Change (OSD 13) and Drinking Water (OSD 6).
With this project we want our PK students to understand that even when we are not in a coastal city, our behavior and consumption habits have a direct impact on the ocean. We want our youngest students to be able to self-evaluate their practices at home and at school so that they can be sensitized about global issues and come up with small solutions that when implemented in mass could make a significant impact in the environment.
We want PK students to understand their role in the environment, always with the world in mind!

Este año los estudiantes de Prejardín se han sumergido en “Las Maravillas Del Mar!”. A través de nuestro proyecto integrado nuestros estudiantes más pequeños están explorando las profundidades del mar, aprendiendo sobre los animales marinos, las amenazas que éstos deben enfrentar diariamente, el cambio climático, desastres naturales, y su rol como especie dominante en la protección de especies marinas y su hábitat.
Este bimestre los estudiantes investigarán sobre especies del ártico, tanto las que viven en el mar, como las que dependen de éste para subsistir. Explorarán el concepto de calentamiento global y cómo este afecta a los océanos, a los animales que viven en él, y ha incrementado la posibilidad de desastres naturales.
Los estudiantes de Prejardín están aprendiendo sobre los Objetivos de Sostenibilidad de las Naciones Unidas y haciendo conexiones importantes con el cuidados del agua, relacionando el cuidado de los Océanos y Vida Marina (ODS 14), Cambio Climático (ODS 13), y el Agua y Saneamiento (ODS 6).
Con este proyecto deseamos que nuestros estudiantes de Prejardín comprendan que aunque no vivimos en una ciudad costera, nuestro comportamientos y hábitos de consumo tiene un impacto directo en el océano. Queremos que nuestros estudiantes más pequeños aprendan a auto-evaluar sus practicas tanto en casa con en el colegio para que se puedan sensibilizar sobre esta problemática global y general posibles soluciones que aunque sean pequeñas, al unirlas puedan tener un impacto significativo en el ambiente.
