We are pleased to introduce Maria Camila Hoyos, an outstanding alumna of Colegio Rochester who has charted a brilliant path in the field of International Law.
How was your experience at Colegio Rochester, and how do you think it influenced your career?
My time at Colegio Rochester was fundamental. Not only did I receive a solid education, but I also learned values that have been the bedrock of my career, such as dedication and commitment.
After graduating in 2006, you've had an impressive career in International Law. Can you tell us about your journey since then?
After my studies in Law and Political Science at Universidad de los Andes, I had the opportunity to work in various law firms in Colombia. Later, my quest for knowledge led me to complete a Master's in Law at Columbia University, which marked a pivotal point in my career. Since then, I've worked in New York, Lisbon, and currently at WilmerHale in London.
Recently, you were recognized as a Future Leader in Arbitration in England by Who's Who Legal. Tell us about this achievement.
It's an honor to receive this recognition. Working in international arbitration has been thrilling, and receiving this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team at WilmerHale.
You represent clients in international disputes; can you share some standout experiences?
Certainly, I've had the privilege of working on diverse cases, from energy and mining to international contracts. Each case presents unique challenges, but successful resolution and client satisfaction are the most rewarding outcomes.
In addition to your work at WilmerHale, you co-founded the Portuguese Very Young Arbitration Practitioners network. How did this initiative come about?
The network arose from the need to create a community for young professionals in the arbitration field in Portugal. We wanted to provide a space for learning and collaboration, and I'm pleased to see how it has grown and thrived.
How do you balance your work in international law with your leadership roles, such as your involvement in the ABA?
Balance is key. Engaging in leadership roles allows me to contribute to the field's development and connect with colleagues, while my work at WilmerHale continually challenges me and keeps me updated on global legal trends.
Finally, any advice for students dreaming of a successful career in international law?
Perseverance and passion are crucial. Never underestimate the power of building strong relationships in the industry, and of course, never stop learning.

Nos complace presentar a María Camila Hoyos, una destacada exalumna del Colegio Rochester que ha trazado un camino brillante en el ámbito del Derecho Internacional.
¿Cómo fue tu experiencia en el Colegio Rochester y cómo crees que influyó en tu carrera?
Mi tiempo en el Colegio Rochester fue fundamental. No solo recibí una educación sólida, sino que también aprendí valores que han sido la base de mi carrera, como la dedicación y el compromiso.
Después de graduarte en 2006, has tenido una carrera impresionante en el Derecho Internacional. ¿Cómo ha sido tu trayectoria desde entonces?
Después de mis estudios en Derecho y Ciencia Política en la Universidad de los Andes, tuve la oportunidad de trabajar en diversas firmas de abogados en Colombia. Luego, mi búsqueda de conocimiento me llevó a completar una Maestría en Derecho en Columbia University, lo que marcó un punto clave en mi carrera. Desde entonces, he trabajado en Nueva York, Lisboa y actualmente en WilmerHale en Londres.
Recientemente, fuiste reconocida como Futura Líder de Arbitraje en Inglaterra por Who's Who Legal. Cuéntanos sobre este logro.
Es un honor recibir este reconocimiento. Trabajar en arbitraje internacional ha sido apasionante, y recibir este premio es un testimonio del arduo trabajo y la dedicación de todo el equipo en WilmerHale.
Representas a clientes en disputas internacionales, ¿puedes compartir algunas experiencias destacadas?
Claro, he tenido el privilegio de trabajar en casos diversos, desde energía y minería hasta contratos internacionales. Cada caso presenta desafíos únicos, pero la resolución exitosa y la satisfacción de los clientes son las recompensas más gratificantes.
Además de tu trabajo en WilmerHale, eres cofundadora de la red Portuguese Very Young Arbitration Practitioners. ¿Cómo surgió esta iniciativa?
La red nació de la necesidad de crear una comunidad para jóvenes profesionales en el campo de la arbitraje en Portugal. Queríamos ofrecer un espacio para el aprendizaje y la colaboración, y estoy feliz de ver cómo ha crecido y prosperado.
¿Cómo equilibras tu trabajo en derecho internacional con tus responsabilidades en roles de liderazgo, como tu participación en la ABA?
El equilibrio es clave. Participar en roles de liderazgo me permite contribuir al desarrollo del campo y conectarme con colegas, mientras que mi trabajo en WilmerHale me desafía continuamente y me mantiene actualizada en las tendencias legales globales.
Finalmente, ¿algún consejo para los estudiantes que sueñan con una carrera exitosa en derecho internacional?
La perseverancia y la pasión son fundamentales. Nunca subestimen el poder de construir relaciones sólidas en la industria y, por supuesto, nunca dejen de aprender.
