Maria Del Mar Cortés, a creative and diligent Grade 7A student, showcased her talent by designing an educational set of cards. These captivating cards feature beautifully drawn animals often misunderstood due to appearance or behavior. Each card dispels common myths associated with these creatures, presenting factual information. The project not only served as a language exercise, incorporating Unit 2's vocabulary and grammar, but also provided an engaging opportunity for Maria Del Mar to present her findings to the class. Moreover, Maria Del Mar's insightful interview and responses for the Lion’s Honor Magazine added an enriching dimension to her exploration of misunderstood animals.

1. You’re new at the school; what’s your opinion on the Real World English sessions at Rochester school?
I find the sessions to be comprehensive and enjoyable. The English proficiency level at the school is impressive, making me feel confident about participating in class. I have significantly improved thanks to the Real World English sessions.
2. What was Unit 2: Misunderstood animals about?
In this unit, we researched into the idea that many animals face misunderstanding due to their physical appearance and behavior. However, the reality is that each animal exhibits different behaviors depending on situations and instincts, such as self-defense. All animals contribute positively to the environment.
3. What was the objective of the mini-project on misunderstood animals?
The project aimed to educate about the benefits of animals often misunderstood for various reasons. The goal was to raise awareness and demonstrate their positive impact on the environment. We also aimed to learn new vocabulary.
4. Can you tell us what you learned while working on this project?
I acquired new words such as "misunderstand," "poisonous," "pest," "calm," "dangerous," "misconception," and more. We learned to use infinitives with and without 'to' and speculate about the past. Discovering unknown aspects of certain animals, like their survival instincts and behavior, was enlightening. The project provided insights into multiple animals.
5. How can you use what you learned in your everyday life?
Being aware of animals and their behavior is essential. The modals for speculating about the past and infinitives can enhance my speech and writing structure when expressing ideas in English.

Encuentro que las sesiones son completas y agradables. El nivel de inglés en la escuela es impresionante, lo que me hace sentir segura al participar en clase. He mejorado significativamente gracias a las sesiones de Real World English.

En esta unidad, investigamos la idea de que muchos animales son malinterpretados debido a su apariencia física y comportamiento. Sin embargo, la realidad es que cada animal exhibe diferentes comportamientos según las situaciones e instintos, como la autodefensa. Todos los animales contribuyen positivamente al medio ambiente.

El proyecto tuvo como objetivo educar sobre los beneficios de animales a menudo malentendidos por diversas razones. El objetivo era crear conciencia y demostrar su impacto positivo en el medio ambiente. También buscábamos aprender nuevo vocabulario.
4. ¿Puedes contarnos qué aprendiste mientras trabajabas en este proyecto?
Adquirí nuevas palabras como "malentender", "venenoso", "plaga", "tranquilo", "peligroso", "concepto equivocado", y más. Aprendimos a usar infinitivos con y sin 'to' y a especular sobre el pasado. Descubrir aspectos desconocidos de ciertos animales, como sus instintos de supervivencia y comportamiento, fue esclarecedor. El proyecto proporcionó perspectivas sobre varios animales.
5. ¿Cómo puedes utilizar lo que aprendiste en tu vida diaria?
Ser consciente de los animales y su comportamiento es esencial. Los modales para especular sobre el pasado y los infinitivos pueden mejorar la estructura de mi discurso y escritura al expresar ideas en inglés.
