7th Grade Integrated Project with Great Guests

Within the activities corresponding to the integrated project that we defined in agreement with our grade students, the 7th Grade teaching team organized two moments of great importance on September 30th, which widely supported the topics discussed in it.

In this way, we had two great guests who supported us in accessing concepts of how the different types of sports and their high-performance athletes have generated new branches within this same path, as follows:

1. Juan Pablo Duarte (ex-student/Class of 2013) founder of Futbol Road Show Colombia, came to talk to us about Sports Cards seen as a means to save the image of our sports idols, their autograph and sometimes even part of their shirts worn in momentous matches in their careers. He told us about how this type of card has been collected since the beginning of the 20th century (with much more tradition in America and Europe) and how today it has been transformed into what we live directly with the Panini World Cup album that is currently running. thanks to the proximity of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 World Cup. We closed this wonderful moment with a “change-a-thon” that allowed Middle School students and the community to find those album sheets they were looking for so much and some even complete them and,

2. On the other hand, at the end of a Friday full of great learning, we had a wonderful virtual meeting with Sebastian Hernández (professional soccer player of our Colombian soccer) who currently plays with Deportivo Huila and who began his professional career in 2004 at Deportes Quindío. He also played for Millonarios before joining Ecuador’s Serie A Emelec in 2007. With Emelec Hernández he played his first Copa Libertadores game; on February 14, 2007, he played 61 minutes of Emelec’s 1-0 loss against CA Vélez Sarsfield. Hernández then went on to play in his country for Deportivo Cali, his first club Deportes Quindío and Once Caldas.

Sebastian shared with us his great learnings through having lived endless experiences and helped us fill ourselves with knowledge regarding being a “High Performance” athlete and strengthening in aspects such as: a. Teamwork, b. Integrative Health Awareness, c. Different ways in which they take care of their emotions from “Success or Frustration”. Additionally, he allowed us to enter his World of Quality, of which he told us that his two daughters and his wife are an essential part of it and that having them with him has helped him in times of difficulty, such as when he was in Turkey playing for some years. In the same way, he told us about his foundation with which he ensures that children with fewer opportunities can have uniforms, soccer shoes and balls for their sports practices; We found out here that it was like this as Futbol Road Show Colombia (represented by Juan Pablo Duarte) and he met since they have made two visits, one in Caldas and the other in Chocó, bringing equipment and sports cards for 1,000 children with fewer opportunities.
